Most of what people are missing right now are just mods to the game like dwarf therapist which was never a Tarn product. I heard it was a bug that got introduced in one of the newer versions of the game but I'm not sure why I seem to be one of the few people who really have a problem with it.įor the most part it's just different controls. A BIG BIG BIG problem i had with the last version of ASCII and presumably it's still happening in the Steam version, is the insane occurence of intelligent undead just showing up in migrant waves, visiting temples and taverns, and all your "LIVING" dwarves just hanging out with them as if nothing is unusual about that. The tileset has with the Aniron font to make it more readable, although you’re ultimately looking at Dwarf Fortress Classic if the ASCII characters were from a non-Romanized character set. Did that ever get figured out? I'm waiting for the patches to start rolling in before I start a new fort. I could get a strong fort going much faster in ASCII than I can in this, and I'm running into strange things that I never encountered in ASCII such as my military squads dropping their axes after they kill something. I feel like I am cutting off a good 80% of my control over my fort, and I'm so used to having certain information quickly available that the "hunt and peck" mouse controls are slowing down my gameplay. If the tileset is set up properly, you should see all of that. You'll see flowers blossom, trees loose their leaves, and a lot of other beautiful ASCII art, that you might miss completely if you use a tileset. Made this game so much easier to get into having everything pictured and not having to guess. Many tilesets just show each type of grass with the same tile. I have well over 300 hours on ASCII and the lack of Dwarf Therapist is really what hurts me the most. People who are not open to others not having to play the game the way they've played it may be somewhat salty.
